Paul Okerberg
| After 30 years of working for the federal government, the mountains for me have always proven to
be a sanctuary and a place to connect with things bigger than ourselves. I was a competitive
marathoner for almost 40 years - nearly qualifying for the Olympic Trials in 1992 and 1996. In
2009, I ran from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon to the North Rim and back to the South Rim -
44 miles; 24,000 feet of elevation change in 10 hours. Now older and much slower, there is no
interest in speed - just having a goal (peak) to complete and doing so safely while having fun
and meeting others in GMS. I have climbed all of Glacier's Big Peaks and am now working on the
rest of them.

David Kuenzli
| I have been climbing and cycling since 1986 when I moved from Chicago, IL to attend the US Air Force
Academy in CO. We retired from the US Air Force and now live in Bigfork, MT. I've been involved in
mountaineering clubs for the past 12 years. I was a Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) council member,
course instructor and trip coordinator. My mountain education and training includes The Mountaineers
and CMC's High Altitude Mountaineering School, USAF Aircrew and Winter Survival, Wilderness First Aid
and CPR, and Avalanche Level 1. My favorite types of climbs are alpine scrambling and snow couloir
routes. I teach GMS classes in trip coordinator training and alpine scrambling.

| I worked for park service as a dispatcher for 4 summers while attending college. I have been climbing/hiking for my entire life, and love to explore. I have done numerous peaks throughout the years.

Warren Lane
| Warren Lane is the proud grandfather of Dillon Lane! He hopes to share his love of all things
outdoors with Dillon as he has been blessed to do with so many GMS friends. Warren is a retired
High School Science teacher who taught in Cut Bank and Kalispell. He is married to Anna and lives
in Kalispell.

Craig Parmelee
| In 1990 the wilds of western Montana lured Craig Parmelee away from his hometown of Maryville,
Missouri. Craig lived for a short time in West Yellowstone and then moved to Bozeman and
graduated from the accounting department at MSU in 1996. While living in Bozeman Craig enjoying
the hunting, fishing, and skiing that the area had to offer. In 2006 Craig and his wife Denise
and daughters Shayla and Kira moved to Kalispell and they quickly fell in love with Glacier
National Park. Most every weekend was spent exploring the breathtaking views and vast untamed
areas of the park. In 2015 Craig went on his first GMS climb and he has been hooked ever since.

Greg Notess
| Greg has climbed with GMS since about 1981 and been a member since 1985. In those days there was no
sign-up process at all, so he has really seen GMS grow. Greg worked as a librarian at MSU in Bozeman
for many years before retiring and moving up to Columbia Falls in 2018 to be closer to Glacier. Greg
often climbs with wife Cecelia and daughters Laura and Mary (who grew up climbing with GMS). Greg
has worked several summers in Many Glacier, Goat Haunt, East Glacier, and West Glacier and enjoys
climbing throughout Glacier and Waterton and the surrounding area.

Michael Contrada
| My first experience of Montana was the Cabinet Wilderness where I came with my family every summer,
starting in 1980, to hike the trails to lookouts, lakes, and peaks. After 40 years living and working
in Boston and travelling the country as a management consultant, my wife and I decided to move full-
time to Kalispell in 2014. I followed up a suggestion to check out Glacier Mountaineering Society and
have been hiking and climbing in Glacier and the Flathead Valley ever since. I am thankful to all the
members I have met who have taught me how to bushwhack, scramble, ski, skin, and coordinate, and to
enjoy the wilderness with those who share similar interests. Montani semper liberi

| Emmett Berg is a writer living in San Francisco and is the new editor of the Alpine Start. He began
climbing with the GMS in 1992 with his father Steve Berg, and he rejoined in 2021 with his wife
Esther.

Brendan OBrien
| Brendan grew up in Eastern Connecticut where he found his love of the outdoors through the Boy Scouts
of America. After surviving dozens of rainy campouts with Troop 73 he earned the rank of Eagle Scout
and a lifetime appreciation for dry socks. A visit to Glacier National Park in 2017 left him
captivated by the Many Glacier area. Walking through the Ptarmigan Tunnel he knew he had to make this
place part of his life. In 2018, he moved to Whitefish and joined the Glacier Mountaineering Society
the following year. Since then, he’s been chipping away at his list of peaks, which somehow keeps
getting longer no matter how many he climbs.

David Schuler
| I was born in Bury St Edmunds, England in 1958. Our family moved to Homestead, Florida in 1964.
In 1983, I joined the U.S Coast Guard. My jobs while serving the in the U. S. Coast Guard have
been navigator, deck watch officer, operations officer, law enforcement and search and rescue.
I Retired in October 2008 after a 26 year career and moved to Great Falls, MT. I started my
mountaineering adventures while in the Coast Guard. It started in 1984 on the Seymour Island in
Antarctica. In June 2000 while in Nuuk, Greenland, I climbed two mountains over 8000 Ft. I
have climbed several mountains in Alaska from Dutch Harbor to Juneau. While in Seattle I
climbed a few in the Cascade Mountain range. My dad retired from the U.S Air Force and had a
summer cabin north of Whitefish, MT. Over the years I fell in love with Glacier National Park.
I love the mountains and the splendor of their uplifting beauty. As a member of the Glacier
Foundation I read about GMS and joined right away. During the summer of 2009 I climbed 8
peaks. Angel Wing was my best climb last year for it awesome view. Every climb is awesome for
each is unique in their way. I enjoy being with people that share these passions for the
outdoors. I volunteered to be coordinator for the 2010 climbing season. With each diverse
group I learn something each time I climb. My goal for each climb to be educational, safe and
most of all have fun. Leaving no trace. Enjoy nature at its best.

Stephen Smith
| Stephen has been leading and organizing mountaineering trips since 1990. He has been a GMS coordinator since 2000 and attempts to coordinate one regular season climb and one GMS Week climb every year. Climbing in Glacier is the reason Stephen lives in the Flathead Valley and he enjoys sharing it with others. Some of his more memorable GMS ascents as a coordinator have been Allen Mtn., Going-to-the-Sun Mtn., Mt. Merritt, and Mt. Shasta. His favorite mountain continues to be Mt. Rainier, and he has enjoyed ascents of other volcanoes such as Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, and El Pico de Orizaba in Mexico. Stephen has served in various volunteer capacities in the GMS including Board Member 2001-2010, GMS Treasurer 2001-2003, GMS President 2003-2006, GMS Membership Chairman 2006-present, and GMS Website Committee Chairman 2009-present.

Richard Smith
| Richard Smith, PT recently retired as President, Missoula Physical Therapy, Inc. after 42 years
in the PT profession. He has been bagging peaks for as many years. He can’t seem to do as many
many finger tip push ups as he could in his youth, but will never grow tired of skiing uphill,
kicking steps up a couloir, or finding a new goat trail route to a GNP summit.

Larry Hiller
| I'm a Bozeman native, a grandson of Montana homesteaders, and a MSU grad in Poly Sci and Film &
Television. I
moved to the
Flathead from Bozeman in the mid-90's, and Steve Berg introduced me to GMS in 1998. I went on
my first climb with
GMS in 1999
(Skeleton Mountain) and haven't stopped mountaineering since. Climbing with fellow GMS members
Linda Soper, Al
Hofmeister, and
Peter Yerger gave me the opportunity to do all the 'tens' in 2001 and complete the 'technicals'
in 2004. Having been the
beneficiary
of the work put forth by so many volunteers, I agreed in 2008 to become the Summer Schedule
Planner - a rewarding
chore since
many members plan their summers around the schedule but also a challenging one because of all
the interaction
required with my
fellow planners, coordinators, and committee members. In 2010, I became a member of the GMS
Board. Along with the
GMS Week
and winter schedule planners, I continue to seek new volunteer coordinators. If you have
climbing experience, especially
in Glacier,
and are willing to lead a route on a favorite peak, volunteering to coordinate an outing is a
great way to give something
back to GMS.

John Oliver Ellis
| I first experienced the outdoors in Boy Scouts, but my love of hiking and scrambling came when
a
friend and I went to Europe after college graduation. Due of mechanical difficulties with one
of
our motorcycles, we spent a week in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland at the base of the Eiger,
Jungfrau
& Moench mountains. When I returned, I wanted to find a similar place in the United States.
Naturally, Glacier National Park seemed like a good place to look. One summer of law school a
girlfriend and I drove through Glacier on our way to two weeks of hiking in the North Cascades
and the Banff area. During my time in the Army I was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington and
continued my exploration of the North Cascades, climbing Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams and others. My
biggest regret was not climbing Mt. Saint Helens before it blew. I returned to the South after
the Army, but always found time to spend a couple of weeks out west every other summer. When I
retired, I wanted to be someplace where I could hike in the summer and ski in the winter.
Since
the summer of 2008 I have enjoyed many events with GMS. I like events that go about 8 to 10
miles, with 3000-4000 vertical feet. I am not interested in running up the mountain and back
down again, but rather in enjoying the beauty of the surroundings.

Bill Blunk
| Bill is a GMS Charter Member. Bill served the GMS as the GMS Week Schedule Planner for at least 15 years. Bill served
on the GMS Board since incorporation in 1997 until 2012, and was GMS President for two years. Anyone familiar with
Edwards' climbing guide knows that Bill and Ralph Thornton's exploits in Glacier together are legendary. Bill received the
10,000-foot Peaks Alpine Award in 1987, followed by the prestigious J. Gordon Edwards Lifetime Achievement Award for
his exploits in 2001. It is a real treat to climb with Bill as he generously shares his knowledge of the Park and its history.
Summer months can find Bill at his cabin near St. Mary, but if you stop to say hi watch for bears on his porch!

Brian Sugden
| I climbed a lot in the Cascades Mountains while growing up and in college. I have lived in the
Flathead for 34 years. Last year was my 1st year as a GMS member and absolutely loved the climbs, and
being in the mountains with fellow members.

Britt Lindsay
| I grew up in Montana and graduated from the UM School of Law. I live in Clancy, Montana and work
at a family-orientated business. I am a member of Elkhorn Search and Rescue. I enjoy traveling,
but I believe Glacier National Park is the jewel of the world. Midsummer I can be found
exploring every niche. Beyond Glacier, I have hiked extensively, including backpacking into most
of the wilderness areas in Montana and many of the canyons of Utah. I have climbed high peaks in
Idaho, Colorado, and Mexico. I have rock climbed on and off for the last twenty years, including
some lead climbing. Currently, I am attempting to attain the high point of every mountain range
in Montana. My wife and two sons often join my adventures, occasionally with trepidation.

Bruce White
| Bruce has been a GMS member since 2001 along with his wife Rhonda. In addition to their volunteer
efforts as GMS
coordinators, Bruce and Rhonda coordinate the recognition of all GMS coordinators at every annual
meeting in East
Glacier. Bruce and Rhonda have likely summited more unique peaks in Glacier than any other GMS
couple, including all (6)
of the 10,000-ft peaks. In recent years, the Whites have developed a reputation for quality post-

| | I was raised in the flats of Ohio, worked around the U.S. for the Traveling Nurse Corps, then met a
guy who couldn't
imagine life without Glacier Park.
I've been climbing with GMS since 1987, learning to scramble with both the long legged types and
toddlers. Early
on I'd often hike to Avalanche Lake or Apgar L.O. because I could find my way on trail. Thanks to
great mentors
I've been to lovely peaks like Apikuni and Angel Wing and everything around Apistoki. It's not just
the challenge of
working through an alphabetical list of Glacier's Peaks; there's the fun of kids' scree runs on Goat
Mtn., conquering
Bad Marriage with spouse, and companionship en route to Shangri-la.

Cindy Weaver
| I am a native Montanan—the east-side kind. When we moved to Whitefish with our family in 1994, I
fell in love with the mountains of the area. I joined a women’s hiking group logging many miles
in Glacier Park and the surrounding state and national forests. Five years ago, I started
bagging peaks and became hooked on mountain tops. 2019 I lead my first solo GMS hike up Mataphi.
Joining GMS has lead to many new friendships and exciting climbs.

| I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. I came out in 2003 to work in GNP after college and never left.
I love being outside and moving my body, and I enjoy helping others do the same. I do a wide variety
of activities, but my go to’s are hiking, biking, hockey, lake skating, skinning up Big Mtn, & x-
country skiing. If I had more time, money, and room to store gear, I would do more! I feel very lucky
to live in area with such beautiful scenery and great outdoor opportunities. Hope I get to join you on
adventure sometime soon!

David Endebrock
| My wife Stacey and I first came to Glacier for the 4th of July weekend 2009. We drove Going To The Sun
road and were
blown away by the scenery and snow everywhere! We were so taken by the park that we returned the
following summer.
As we got off the plane we looked around at the mountains, then looked at each other and said "we need
to move". We
returned to the park the following summers spending more and more time exploring the park. Joining GMS
in 2011,
expanded our limited possiblities and put us in contact with a great group of people with a common
interest. We now live
in the flathead area and enjoy the view of the mountains daily. We have been able to further enjoy the
wonderful winters.
We look forward to exploring more of the area. We explore by hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, biking,
kayaking.

Dell Meuchel
| I was born March 9th, 1954, in Missoula, Montana and have found myself teaching and coaching in
the “ice box of the nation” Cut Bank, Montana for the past 35 years. Yes, my sanity could easily
be questioned living in the wind for that long. I have summited over 150 peaks in Glacier and
Waterton with the able assistance of some of GMSs finest members. Summiting Mount Rainier and
Granite Peak I would consider highlights of my climbing endeavors. The friendships and bonds I
have created with my fellow GMS climbers are irreplaceable. In the winter I am an avid snowshoer
and enjoy a challenge. I find great satisfaction in coordinating, learning much more from the
climbers than I could possibly impart. Take a chance and come along.

Donald Stolte
| I have lived in Whitefish all my life; anyway since I was 2. I have fished and hiked, picked
huckleberries all over NW Montana. I have hiked most trails in Glacier, and after my two boys got
old enough to climb we started with Rising Wolf. Since then we have climbed many peaks; four or
five with Gordon Edwards. I am missing Kintla and Cleveland in the 10,000 footers. My only time
as coordinator was in 1993 which I led a climb to Longfellow. Have also climbed Vulture, Sinopah
and many other class 3 climbs. In the late 90's I had a great climb of Mt Rainier with the
Rainier guides. I love biking and spend much of my time in the saddle. I still like to reach a
summit now and again but enjoy the trails and ridges the most. Looking forward to leading a hike
in the Whitefish Range this Summer. I have been a member of GMS since almost the beginning but
have not been involved much since last Summer and did a few hikes. I love to snowshoe as well.

Doug Jurgens
| I moved to the Flathead Valley from Minnesota about 13 years ago. I've been a Jammer in GNP for four
summer seasons and in my spare time from that demanding role I enjoy hiking, biking and paddling in
GNP and the surrounding area. Biking up the GTTSR is a special experience. I love the winters here and
take advantage of the local landscape for cross-country and snowshoe outings. See you on the trail!

| I was born in Great Falls, MT. I have lived here most of my life. I work at Lithia Motors in the
parts department. I'm going to school part time at the MSU branch in great falls. I've been a
member for 3 years now. I've dabbled in technical stuff, but mostly I just enjoy long hikes and
scrambles. I also like getting out in my canoe. I enjoy birding.

Guy Dean Bateman
| I've been a member of GMS since 2005. I'd say I'm an intermediate mountaineer and rock
climber. Sad to say, I've been slowing down as I've grown older. No more ice climbing or
overnight backpack trips. My limit on rock in the past was about 5.10; I feel relatively
comfortable on 5.6 at the present time; however, I've never done any lead climbing, just top-
roping or followed others up the rock. At the present time, I like to do mostly day hikes,
scrambles, and peak bagging.
I've been on GMS sanctioned trips to Stanton, Appistoki, Dancing Lady, Piegan, Cannon Mountain,
Mount Gould, Great Northern, Reynolds, Bearhat, Angel Wing, some others I don’t remember off
the top of my head, and the spring rock climbing tune-up. I've coordinated GMS trips up
Oberlin and Heavy Runner. I've climbed several other peaks in Glacier National and I've also
been climbing in northern New England and - most recently - in the Pacific Northwest (where I
coordinate several trips a year for a couple of Meetup groups).
I am an avid hunter, spending most of my free time big game hunting in the Autumn, which gets
me out in the mountains. I've never been lost in the woods or the mountains, but to paraphrase
Daniel Boone, I've been turned around for a few hours a time or two. I love being outdoors;
unfortunately, my current profession as a real estate entrepreneur keeps me indoors much of the
time.

Jake Bramante
| Jake grew up in northwest Montana exploring the Forest Service land that bordered his childhood home.
He didn’t really start hiking trails and bagging peaks until after he moved back in 2000 from Arizona
where he attended college. He found a bunch of outdoor nerds with whom he climbed his first Glacier
peaks (Clements and both of Cannon’s high points) and honed his backpacking skills with weeklong
backpacking/floating trips in the Bob. His big project in 2011 was to hike all 734 miles of Glacier’s
trails in one summer, which led to a career selling day hike maps. He loves birding, participating in
the Park’s various citizen science projects, long days on the trail, and climbing summits with his
wife Kristen.

Jim Boyer
| | Jim has been a GMS member since 2005 and a GMS climb coordinator for several years. His main
outdoor interests are hiking,climbing, and snowshoeing. For summer fun, he has enjoyed
ascents of these peaks: Siyeh, Reynolds, Bearhat, Cannon, Clements, Divide Mt. Pollock, Calf
Robe, Oberlin, Fire Brand, Floral Park, Buttercup Park, Great Northern, Beartooths and Froze to
Death Plateau, Mission Mtns. Hikes, Cabinet Mtns.... For winter fun, he has done Scalplock
Lookout, Mt. Brown Lookout, Stanton, and Snyder Lake.
Jim and Caroline Clemans have been over a lot of trails in GNP together. According to Jim, "This

Jim Cossitt
| Jim moved to MT from Iowa in 1998 and joined GMS in 1999. Prior to moving to Montana his main
outdoor passion was road cycling and he raced from 1977-1988 regionally, nationally &
internationally. Once he arrived in Montana, he "shifted gears" into scrambling, general
mountaineering, AT & backcountry skiing, waterfall ice climbing, good friends and
good scotch. He has been leading trips for GMS since 2001 and typically lead 2-5 or more trips /
year, usually spring snow climbs, summer glacier travel trips or winter ice climbing.
In the winters, he heads north for waterfall ice in the Bow Valley or along the Icefields Parkway
and usually trys to spend a week or more of hut based AT skiing in the Selkirks or on a ski traverse
of some sort. He is an active member of the Alpine Club of Canada, Rocky Mountain Section and climbs
regularly with them. Jim also gets out regularly with the Rocky Mouuntaineers from Missoula,
particualry in the Mission and Swan Ranges.
Jim served on the GMS Board of Directors from 2005-2011 and as Secretary from 2008 - 2011.
In between outdoor goofing off, Jim trys to practice bankruptcy and debtor / creditor law in the
Flathead. Kind of like climbing - -
one keeps practicing and one of these years, they get it right :))

Jason Wilkes
| I'm originally from Oklahoma, but when the good 'ol USAF brought me to Montana in January 1992- I
knew I would be living near the mountains for the rest of my life. An old timer told me shortly
after I got to Montana: "If you're here long enough to wear out a pair of hiking boots, you'll
never want to leave". How true that statement was. I've also lived in Alaska and Jackson Hole-
but Montana has always pulled me back. I've been a member of GMS since 2011. I work (I use the
term "work" loosely) for the US Postal Service.

| Mountains have been an important part of my life since I was a child. My earliest years were spent in
the mountains of Papua New Guinea. As a teenager, my Dad introduced me to skiing and hiking in the
Sierra Nevadas. I've lived in the Flathead since 2005 and when I'm not working as a mental health
nurse practitioner, I'm often pursuing my next outdoor adventure. Whether it's hiking, backpacking,
climbing, peak-bagging, skiing, snowshoeing or sometimes biking, if mountains are involved, I'm
interested!

Mark Blevins
| Mark first became enamored with the peaks of Glacier in 2000, when we took a summer job at the Many
Glacier Hotel. 17 years later he found himself within a few hours drive of the park after taking a
job in Helena with Montana DEQ, and decided it was prudent to begin making up for lost time. He
joined GMS in 2020 and enjoys the fellowship of spending time in the mountains with like-minded
folks, even if he doesn’t have much to say about it.

Kelly Bednara
| Originally from Chicago, IL Kelly moved to Montana in 2016 to attend the University of Montana to get
a degree in Parks, Tourism, and Recreation Management. That veterans day weekend she took a solo trip
to Glacier and instantly fell in love. Her first official summit was Mt. Aeneas in the Jewel Basin in
2024. She has seven years of Forest Service experience and is a Certified Interpretive Guide. She has
a passion for hiking and camping and she hopes to bag some more peaks this summer and to learn more
about mountaineering and climbing.

Kristen Bramante
| Kristen grew up camping, hiking, and playing in the creeks near her childhood home in central Montana.
College and then subsequent job opportunities landed her in northeastern Montana where she currently
lives with her husband Jake. She feels very fortunate to call Glacier her backyard, and enjoys long
days exploring on and off trail.

Laurel R. Vielle
| Laurel has been a member of GMS since 2008 but discovered her love of hiking and climbing as a
teenager growing up in Browning, MT which is located along the eastern front of the Rocky
Mountains. Laurel's first peak was Divide mountain and that is her favorite peak to this day.
Laurel has enjoyed climbing in Glacier, the Bitterroots and the Mission mountain ranges.

| Paul has been in the Flathead for 4 years, exploring and adventuring as much as he can. His main

Quinn Fitzpatrick
| My love for Glacier bloomed in the 70’s & 80’s hiking as a kid with my family. In the early 90’s I
began climbing peaks in the park, the surrounding mountains and the Canadian Rockies and have summited
around 100 peaks in the Glacier-Waterton complex. Otherwise I’m active with gravel & mountain biking,
nordic, downhill & backcountry skiing, trail running and strength training. I’m a retired RN, am
working on attaining Wilderness First Aid certification and have recent Avalanche Level 1 training.
I’ve been a member of GMS since 2008 and look forward to giving back by helping coordinate outings as
well as making new mountain friends. My favorite adventures include aesthetic alpine ridgewalks, class
3-4 scrambles and new explorations.

Ralph Thornton
| | I have been hiking and climbing in Glacier since 1973 and am a Charter Member of GMS. I completed
my first climbs of the
10,000 foot peaks in 1986, received a GMS Lifetime Achievement award in 2001 and completed climbs
of the technical
peaks in 2009. I served two years as president of GMS, two terms on the GMS board of directors,
and am now back on the
board for my third term. I enjoy the camaraderie of GMS climbs and the company of members on
various outings. I tend to
emphasize group safety and “togetherness” when coordinating GMS climbs.
In addition to mountaineering I frequently backpack in Glacier and the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
Winter finds me cross
country skiing.

| As of 2022 have summitted around 125 GNP peaks since 2008, including most of the technical peaks.
My interests are technical rock and ice climbing, multipitch, peakbagging, hiking, backcountry skiing,
hockey, and grandkids.

Rhonda White
| Rhonda has been a GMS member since 2001 along with her husband Bruce. Rhonda serves the GMS in
multiple ways: she has served as a GMS Board Member and is also the current GMS Webmaster.
Bruce and Rhonda have likely summited more unique peaks in Glacier than any other GMS couple,
including all (6) of the 10,000-ft peaks. In recent years, the Whites have developed a
reputation for quality post-climb refreshments - to learn more, sign up for a White outing!

Sean Mihalko
| Sean Mihalko was born near West Glacier and grew up climbing in Glacier National Park. After moving to Bozeman to pursue technical climbing opportunities and a degree in Statistics, he returned to work in the place he loves most. He completed climbing history research for Glacier National Park, and now works as a Wilderness Ranger. When he’s not working or climbing in Glacier, you’ll find Sean playing drums, skiing, taking photos, or writing.

Stacey Endebrock
| My husband David and I first experienced Glacier in 2009. I had never been so awestruck and
mesmerized
by the
beauty and grandeur of this spectacular treasure of Montana. We returned every summer knowing
this is
were we
wanted to live and explore. Kalispell is now our permanent residence as of June 2013. I retired
from
teaching High
school science and my equestrian careers. David and I have summitted over 50 mountains now in
Glacier
and
elsewhere. We enjoy hiking, biking, climbing, kayaking, snowshoeing and skiing. Being a GMS
member is
such a
blessing. The people of GMS have taught us so much and are an incredible inspiration. We feel
so lucky
to be
sharing time with such a wonderful group of people and look forward to making many cherished
memories
as
coordinators and attendees of GMS events.

Steve Berg
| Steve has been a member of the GMS since 1991. A retired attorney, Steve was instrumental in the
incorporation of the GMS in 1997 and served as GMS Treasurer for several years as well as GMS
Secretary from 2011-2012. In 2010, Steve received the prestigious J. Gordon Edwards Lifetime
Achievement Award at the annual luncheon and meeting in East Glacier. Steve served as GMS
President from 2009-2011. Steve often hosts GMS events in both summer and winter at his gorgeous
North Fork cabin north of Polebridge.

Steve Cady
| Steve has been going to Glacier, for some length of time before GMS, doing mostly hikes with his dad
and then gradually scrambles with the likes of Gordon/Jane, Bill Blunk, Dick Schwab, Monty, etc. and
then joining GMS when GMS formed. Comes now on summer vacations, from a desk job mind you, and mostly
just hikes and does off-schedule stuff at the last minute. Looks forward to retirement eventually and
spending much more time in Glacier, the Appalachian Trail, and drives to all 49 states again without
being in a hurry, as well as the Canadian Provinces, and so many other areas/interests such as
computers & photography. He does co-lead a meetup.com hiking group in Los Angeles and the last 5 or
so years has been been bringing L.A. people up to see the wonders of Glacier as well. Not being as
fast as he'd like, he doesn't mind sweeping to make sure everyone makes it out without issue.

Bill Schulz
| I have been a GMS member since 2012 and a coordinator since 2014. After years of working and raising
kids, I am enjoying more opportunities for backcountry adventures, and GMS has played a key role in
allowing me to do that. Along with the challenge of the climbs, I enjoy the camaraderie of the group,
visiting with old friends, and meeting new ones. I enjoy technical climbing, scrambling, trail hiking,
backpacking, and Nordic skiing. It's all good! Looking forward to seeing you on an outing soon!
