Sat, May 24 2003 - Mt. Shasta (View Original Event Details)

Coordinator(s): Stephen Smith
Participants:Stephen Smith

Write Up:
Stephen Smith along with David Harris of Nashville, TN made a summit attempt. The trip was jinxed from the start as another climber, David’s brother Steve Harris, became ill the day of the climb and was confined to the hotel room. Then, extreme sunburn and bad weather set in, so the climb was aborted at the 10,000 foot Lake Helen base camp. The trip culminated with Stephen’s car not starting at the trailhead, followed by a minimum class-four towing experience down the mountainside (with Stephen and David still in the car). Stephen has found out the hard way over the years that climbing the Cascade volcanoes often requires multiple attempts!
