The Brave Dog climb suffered from the normal early June weather and the overfull roster reduced down to five brave, soggy climbers. On a good tip from Don Scharfe we took the Fielding /Coal Creek Trail past Ole Creek and ascended up the southeast face of Sheep Mountain. Other than rain and sleet we had no difficulty reaching Sheep Mountain's summit. At 8,569 feet it is a little higher than Brave Dog with an interesting traverse between. We didn't continue that day, but could see most of the way during a few breaks in the weather. I believe most of us were happy with what we accomplished. This climb later in the season might be wise, especially because fording Ole Creek can be dangerous. Climbers have linked Sheep, Brave Dog and Soldier mountains together and found this to be a very satisfactory trip. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
