Scalplock Lookout was a replacement outing for Dancing Lady which was cancelled because of a stormy weather forecast. The storm arrived (albeit a week late) and turned the Autumn Creek trail approach to Dancing Lady into a soggy, muddy mess. Seeking higher ground for an alternative outing seemed to be a reasonable course of action. The trail up Scalplock fit the bill. Even though the forecast was again less than bluebird, the weather gods provided a window of opportunity. In spite of slowly building clouds, the sun managed to poke through for the duration of our hike. The trail's 3,000 feet of vertical gain provided a good workout, allowing everyone to set their own pace and assess the status of their early season conditioning. With St. Nicholas looming in the background, we gathered on the lookout steps for a group portrait. We were all quite happy to get some exercise, socialize a bit and most importantly, remain dry during this fickle Montana spring weather. By mid-afternoon, we were back at the trailhead and optimistic that summer would eventually arrive. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
