Weather concerns reduced our group to four optimists. There were plenty of clouds but the rain held off. Snow covered the trail to Firebrand Pass beginning at 5800'. Once in the basin below Firebrand Pass we guessed (due to clouds covering the summits) that the best route was not Firebrand Pass, but up the East shoulder of Red Crow. This worked until 100' from the summit where a steep snow field blocked our path. Working down 200' feet and back toward the Pass we were able to obtain the broad southern shoulder for the traditional route to the top. A further off trail, limited or no visibility trip to Bearhead was out of the question, so we returned via our same route, stopping along the way to practice self-arrests in the snowfields. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
