Ten eager GMS rock climbers gathered at Blackleaf Canyon for a fun-filled day on the crags. Unfortunately, the planned activity was not to be, as near-hurricane force winds raged through the canyon narrows on the approach hike, necessitating a retreat to the parking area, where the wind was not nearly as tenacious. After a short exploratory hike below Volcano Reef (plan B?), the group returned to the cars for food, drink, and (more) socializing. Once those needs were met, an impromptu climbing clinic broke out with ropes strung to vehicles for practicing belaying techniques, knot tying, and other fun rope tricks. Throughout the day, and in spite of the wind, there were only smiles and much laughter. Credit goes to this group for their great attitude and willingness to have fun no matter what!
