GMS Blacktail Hills Hike: Eight GMS members had a great day hiking through the hills and slopes of the Blacktail Hills on the south end of Glacier Park. This hike was aimed at exploring the Blacktail Hills taking note of the spectacular flower display that shows itself at this time of the year. Nearly 50 varieties of flowers were seen and most identified. We were not disappointed except that we were about one week too early to see the bitterroot in bloom. We did find the bitterroot plants, but they were in bud and had not yet opened. The route chosen was a loop route which took us across open ridge tops for most of the day ultimately visiting the summit of the Blacktail Hills. This made for a liesurely hike at a relaxed pace. A strong breeze kept the mosquitos at bay except when in the brush near the start of the hike where mosquito repellant was handy. Those hiking were Barbara Boorman, Elizabeth Showalter, Leslie Kermat, Greg Kushnak, Allison McCarthy, Pat Kean-Richmond, Jane Hunt and Coordinator Darrel Coverdell Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos.
