The well advertised breakable crust conditions necessitated a change in plans. Denise G-ski, Frank W-ski, David Schuler and I started out at Marias Pass on light touring gear and heading into the Forest Service on the south side of the highway. We made our way cross country along the east base of Flattop Mtn. We joined the road for a short stretch and then turned east and downhill through the woods. We generally followed Pike Creek until arriving at the South Fork of Two Medicine. We toured up the valley another 1.5 miles, generally staying in or along the river. We turned around at 1:30 pm and made our way down stream to Sawmill Flats and then followed the Summit Two Med South Fork trail back to Marias. We indeed had a zipper crust throughout the day but it was manageable for this type of touring. A few of us even got a turn or two in. Great day out with a great group of GMS'ers. Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
