We had several cancellations from the trip, but the eight of us who went had a very good time. The weather was warm (but not too warm), sunny, and windy. We departed Logan Pass about 10:25 AM (waiting for one more person to show up). We avoided the scree field, as the NPS prefers, and climbed the trail up past Oberlin Falls, up to the saddle between Clements and Oberlin, up the ridge toward Oberlin, then worked our way up through a small chimney, up through the cliffs, over The Crack (very intimidating to cross if you don't like exposure, but like Yogi Berra said, "99% of everything is half mental"), and then worked our way below the summit ridge to the summit. We spent about half an hour eating lunch on the summit. The summit photo shows (in the back row) Scott, Jeff, and Robin, and in the front row Della, Mark, Nicole, Bob, and Guy. We then descended via the ascent route. A good time was had by all, although on the descent we did encounter rangers who were searching for a reportedly injured climber higher on the mountain (we did not see her) and also witnessed the beginnings of the Reynolds Creek fire. Thanks to all the participants for making such a wonderful scramble. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
