Mon, Jul 19 2010 - Huckleberry Mtn. (View Original Event Details)

Coordinator(s): Paul Watson

Write Up:
It started with the threat of and actually raining, so rain gear was donned. A bit into the hike the weather was better so another change of outer clothes. There were 5 total on the hike, and as it turns out, all four of them were in much better shape than I.  Franz and Joe were ahead most of the time, and they wanted to continue on so they let us know that's what they were going to do. Kirk, Christa and I continued on and then I just flat ran out of gas, hiking legs, and I took a break.  Kirk and Christa stayed with me for a bit, but I indicated that I would be okay and for them to continue on. I rested for half an hour and then continued on at a slower pace. I would catch glimpses of the other hikers occasionally, but was by myself for most of the way up to the lookout.  I had done this hike twice before without any trouble so I was disappointed in my tiring out so quickly this time. Franz and Joe met me on their way back down to the cars and I finally made it to the lookout and Kirk and Christa were there talking to the lookout attendant, a nice young fellow. Participants were: Christa Mattingly, Joe Schletz, Franz Barthel, Paul Watson and Kirk Mattingly.
