Write Up:
Goat Peak was climbed via Otakomi Lake by an eager group of GMS folks on Monday of GMS week. A broad array of experiences were encountered during the day including a brief thunderstorm shortly after departure from the trailhead. This didn’t dampen our spirits nor did the hoards of mosquitos at Otakomi Lake. Lunch had by all on the slopes above Otakomi Lake before scrambling to the top of the peak. The usual spectacular Glacier Park views were enjoyed prior to descending via the NE ridge and scree slope to seldom visited Goat Lake. A hike down the Goat Lake cirque through bit of krumholtz and open meadows led us to the final descent to the Otakomi Lake trail. The scrub trees and brush didn’t phase the group as approaching storms spurred the group back to the trailhead. A total of over 5000 foot vertical and 14.5 miles for the day left everyone weary but satisfied having had a great climb in Glacier. Those who participated were Judy Tintzman, Ginger Flesch, Robert Kealy, Pete Pratt, Noah Pratt, Claudia Synowzik, Pat Keane Richmond, Jane Hunt, Iat MacCallum, Allison McCarthy, Paul Cogswell, Gene Heneford, Joel Vignere, and Darrel Coverdell
