Sun, Jul 31 2016 - Holland Lookout Trail (View Original Event Details)

Coordinator(s): John Oliver Ellis
Participants:John Oliver Ellis, Charlotte Jansson, Paul Erler

Write Up:
This was an exploratory hike as none of us had ever been on these trails. From the parking lot to the Holland Lookout is 3700' of shady switchbacks. We made it in 3 hours. Great views and a shelter, not a lookout, that is open to the public. We hiked up and down to the Sapphire Lakes which were beautiful. Then down another 1000' to Upper Holland Lake. From here it is a hot, dusty, 7 miles of horse trail back to the parking lot with significant uphill to traverse a ridge. Total of 14.5 miles and 8 hours. Our recommendation is hike up to the lookout and Sapphire Lakes, but then go back the same way. Upper Holland Lake is nice, but not worth the dust and uphill back to the parking lot.
