Write Up:
The group for the GMS Week hike over the Carthew summit in Waterton Park was a little smaller than anticipated after a few late dropouts. Still, the group totaled eight and we could only feel sorry for those who didn’t make the trip. It was a beautiful day for most of the day, although the wind howled on the Carthew summit (to no one’s surprise) and there was a brief sprinkle of cold rain. Two brave souls – John Schwabe and Ian MacCallum – hustled up Mount Alderson. A few of us followed about halfway then opted to go back and wait at the pass until the climbers returned. After that, it was a quick descent across some snowfields and down through the beautiful basin before diving into the trees and the last few miles to theWaterton townsite. Climbers were: Iris Schwabe, John Schwabe, Allison McCarthy, Jack Rayburn, Phil Shanholtzer, Ian McCallum, Jane Hunt, Pat Keane-Richmond and Paul Watson.
