Sat, Jul 16 2016 - Saint Paul Peak (View Original Event Details)

Coordinator(s): John Oliver Ellis
Participants:John Oliver Ellis, Bill Haring, Pat Keane-Richmond, Steve Dagger

Write Up:
Another trip into the Cabinets from the West which required a 3 1/2 hour ride before the walk began. We started out on road to save the cars, then took the short trail to Milwaukee Pass. Chicago Mountain beckoned, so we headed up a grass and dirt chute to the summit. The clouds were low, but we got some views of Cooper Lake and the Cliff Lake bench. Back down to the trail, we circled Cliff Lake and ascended the shoulder of St. Paul Peak to the 7700 summit. The clouds never lifted while we were on top, but the sun finally came out on our way back out. An incrediblely beautifuly area that looks much more like the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in WA than anything I've seen in MT.
