7-23-2016- Mount Harrison-11021’-Southern Rockies, BC Don Scharfe, Pete Metzmaker, Dexter Hale, Todd Onken, and Jack Beard ascended by the SW face, after a nice camp about 8000’ on the north side. We found good conditions and an enjoyable climb with very scenic summit views, miles of mountain giants in this remote corner of BC. Of interest; Mt. Harrison is the southernmost and number 53 of 54 peaks over 11,000’ in the Canadian Rockies. Also being so remote, it escaped notice as a 11,000 footer until the early 1960’s, first climbed in 1964 by the SW face route. GMS member Trevor Helwig was with a party who made the summit in late August. They ascended most of the prominent North couloir until rockfall forced them out unto the sloping ledges on the big north wall.
