Write Up:
A group of nine climbed Review Mountain in the Whitefish Range adjacent to Glacier National Park. We left Tuchuck Campground following Trail #113 walking steadily upward through forest. It was not long before we were above treeline on the Review Mountain Ridge looking down into a lush basin below. Along the way, we stopped for a snack break and picked the small, sweet huckleberries that were growing next to the trail. Walking along the boulder-strewn ridge with spectacular views in all directions, we approached Review Peak. Part of the group scrambled up the slope while the rest took the barely perceivable switchbacks to the top. The scrambling group got to the summit first due to the poor condition of the switchbacks that were practically sloughing off the mountain side because of erosion and a lack of trail maintenance. We ate lunch on the peak and took a picture of our group. We decided to return to our vehicles the same way that we came up although we could have looped back by way of the Tuchuck Creek Trail #23. We opted for the high ground and great views instead. The weather was perfect for this 11-mile hike/scramble -- a great day to be with friends in the high country.
