Sat, Dec 10 2016 - XC Ski Touring (View Original Event Details)

Coordinator(s): Joe Grabowski
Participants:Joe Grabowski, Denise Grabowski, Alice Ford, Don Arthur

Write Up:
A group of four; Alice Ford, Denise Grabowski, Don Arthur and Joe Grabowski, decided to stay closer to home given the bad winter driving conditions and the excellent snow quality that exist basically everywhere. We toured to the Fish Creek CG and then did the Rocky Pt. loop. We took the by-pass trail to the inside NF road and then toured up the road to McGee Meadow. With the late arrival of snow this season and the cold temps it is easy to go right down to ground with just a foot or more of snow. Couple this with the generous rainfall of October and November the water levels are more like spring than fall. Thus, crossing McGee Meadow was not considered as an option. Instead, we enjoyed the gentle downhill grade of the inside road and our up track back to the CG. Early season conditions are very good. However, no base and an unconsolidated snow pack means hidden obstacles can be an issue. I hope everyone is taking the time to get out and enjoy the snow. Holiday cheers.
