Saturday July 15th was a banner day in the Bitterroot Valley gathering six GMS climbers at the Canyon Creek trail head for an attempt on North Canton and Sheer Point. I was joined by Lou Hemitt, Greg and Cecelia Notess, John Ellis and Larry Hiller. The granite slabs in the upper part of the valley were spectacular and the lakes deep blue. Trip report short and sweet. I wanted to try the route to Sheer Point first. Terrible choice of route and wrong mountain. We found ourselves in a talus boulder night mare. So much time was consumed we did not have the energy to complete either mountain with thunder storms also on our heels. This a very understanding group who had every reason to push me off a cliff. Learn from mistakes and lead where you are certain not hoping. Chips and beer we enjoyed by all upon our return. I will return to this beautiful area with a GMS group more humble and eager to summit.
