Write Up:
In spite of a not so favorable weather forecast which called for high winds and possible thunder showers we decided to proceed. The day started out fairly nice. Partly sunny and warm enough that I was regretting my decision to wear long pants instead of shorts. We hiked up the trail to the base of the mountain without incident and started up the dry stream beds. Found the simple class three route up through the cliff band and on to the upper talus slope. As we proceed up towards the ridge the weather started to change, clouds rolled in and the wind started to pick up, still no thunder. By the time we reached the ridge winds were up to 20mph and snow was starting to fall. But being this close everyone wanted to keep going. All the way up the weather continued to degrade. At the summit we had 40mph gust with heavy snow blowing horizontal stinging our faces. We didn’t stick around long, quickly descending the ridge and finding some rocks to use as a wind break so we could have some lunch. The trip down was a little slower; we had to be extra careful the rocks were now wet and slippery. By the time we hit the trail, the precipitation had stopped and we started to dry out. Then, as if to mock us, a big blue hole opened in the sky just above the summit and sun shone through it.
