During introductions Guy pointed out that my math and typing skills combined in the description of this little adventure to claim that we would hike 9 miles. Wrong! It is closer to 14 miles. Undaunted by dubious leadership, the crew left the picnic area just after 8am. There were plenty of parking spaces for us all and the traffic on the trail was light for the season. Temps were around 60 and winds calm. By 11 we were at the Grinnel Glacier overlook. Crossing the outlet to the glacial lake was dry footed and the little snow crossing was fairly low angle and soft. No obstacles were encountered and the summit of Angel Wing was attained by 12:30. Views were stupendous and spirits were high. The drop to Grinnel Lake is an impressive 2500 feet. A light breeze assisted with sweat evaporation. On the descent there were many more hikers, but everyone was very accommodating in sharing the trail. We encountered a group of scruffy bighorn ewes and a large high elevation bull moose. On the shore of Grinnel lake a murmur arose that the water was beckoning. It was surprising comfortable and refreshing. All due modesty was observed. The usual awards ceremony took place back at the picnic area where we were treated to a distant but clear view of a Grizzly and her three cubs on the flank and Altyn peak. The needle pegged out on the goodtimesometer.
