Wednesday of GMS week, July 25th found eleven climbers at the Cut Bank trail head headed to Triple Divide Pass and Razoredge Mountain. John and Claire Reynolds, Laurel Vielle, Peter Markalunas, David Archibald, Pete Metzmaker, Anne Dellow, David and Stacey Endebrock, joined coordinator Dell Meuchel and wife Gail for a leisurely 20 mile trek. The valley was lush with wildflowers but the views obscured by fog and low clouds. In fact throughout the 7 mile journey to Triple Divide Pass no mountains were to be seen. Razoredge was an aberration with key route information hidden from view. The mountain gods did smile upon us as the fog broke when we reached the pass revealing our intended route. Our traverse under the east face of Razoredge was passed small glacial tarns and cement hard moraines. David and Pete took on the task of route finding through the final summit block as did Laurel. My thanks to them. Pete Markalunas, our flat lander from NJ did a remarkable job. On the summit beautiful vistas greeted us in all directions, particularly in the direction of Mount Stimson. For 10 of the 11 climbers Razoredge was a new summit in Glacier. What a capable and fun group. Gail's “Cowboy Caviar” and refreshments were shared upon our return.
