Originally scheduled for June 8, we postponed the climb due to weather to June 13 when the forecast was much more favorable. All 8 registrants were able to adjust to the new day.

We hiked the trail a bit further than other parties, to about 4.5 miles to just before where the trail descends to Quartz. It was lighter bushwhacking there, although we did go up and down two small hills and then got into thicker bushwhacking. Despite the brush and the mosquitoes, we made it to the lovely alpine larch forest atop the ridge and then followed the ridge which had just a few cliffs to climb and snowfields to avoid. It took us about 5.5 hours to get to the top. The views of the Bowman and Quartz drainages were fabulous. On the descent, we tried cutting over to the trail sooner but as the brush got thicker, the ascent route would have been much better.

Total trip was about 14 miles, 4,800 feet elevation gain, 10.5 hours, several ticks, and lots of mosquitoes.
