Cindy Weaver, Dennis Eaves, Michael Sterbis and Stacey McGough (guest of Cindy). Met at trail head near Cooney Lookout off Rumble Creek Road and were on the trail shortly before 8:00. Hiked the East Foothills trails approximately 1 mile where a user trail heads straight up the ridge. Although it is not an official USFS trail, it is very well traveled and defined. We saw several parties of hikers, fishers, backpackers and even a father/son running duo. The trail is relentless to the top of the ridge and then crosses a basin just below Lower Rumble Lake. We took a break at the lake--elevation just below 7000 ft--over half of the elevation gained. The lake is beautiful with a view of the waterfall dropping down from Rumble Creek Lake. The trail between the two lakes cross a rocky side hill traversing up to a steep scramble popping onto the shore of the upper lake. It is a steep climb from the upper lake to skirt around the shoulder of an in-the-way prominence of the cirque. Finally on the ridge. There is one short section where it is necessary to come to the front side of the cirque and traverse a ledge. The push to the summit is no cake walk with still about 700 feet to gain. But the views from the summit are 360 degrees of spectacular. Both lakes are visible directly below the summit. Across the valley the Missions parallel the Swan Range. Short breaks at both lakes on the way down helped to rest the quads and give us the last views of the beautiful lake colors with Holland towering above. Back to the cars at 6:00 and enjoyed a tailgate party.
