Cindy Weaver, Rob Bates, George Sherman, Mike Contrada, David Archibald. On the trail at 8:00am. Huckleberries did not disappoint as we climbed up the first 'bump' after leaving the trail at the saddle. They were huge and plentiful and we planned for picking on the way down. The first high point just off the saddle is only 40 feet lower than the actual high point. But, to make it 'official' we continued the 3 miles onward. George discussed on the ride up to the trail head that he had scoped out on Google Earth descending from the high point directly to the road. The visible ridge going down looked great. Knew there would be bushwhacking at the bottom, but hoped for the best. Would decide at the top whether to be adventurous. The ridge was gentle up and down. The last push up to 6651 was steeper and let you know how much elevation had been lost from the first 6613 knob. We had a leisurely lunch at the unassuming high point. When we got ready to leave, George decided he would try the adventure straight down to the road. Mike and Rob chose to join him. I was interested in getting some huckleberries and David liked the known vs. the unknown. The adventure group reported 'class IV bushwhacking' for about two hours. George's bare legs were testimony. Shortcut route not recommended. The adventure group sacrificed to report for others interested. They did beat us back to the car by a bit, but David and I did pick huckleberries. Tailgate party enjoyed re-living the adventure.
