Particpants: Sue Shannon, Paul Cogswell, Austin Lindsay, Arynn Maznio, Josh Eaves, Dennis Eaves, Becca Stohr, Lisa Flowers, Kate Kendall and George Scherman This trip began at the Paola Creek River access. We loaded into two rafts and floated about 2 miles to Muir Creek where we began the hike up Riverview. There were some decent game trails in the beginning of the south side of the west ridge, but as is often the case they would disappear under vegetation or blow down. Eventually we attained the ridge and after skirting or clambering over more windfall we got to the summit. Though the peak is relatively small it affords excellent views of the face of Mt. St. Nicholas, the Great Northern group and sprawling vistas to the north and west. Things went somewhat awry on the descent when trip coordinator, George, was lured onto the Muir creek side of the west ridge which became thicker and steeper as we lost elevation. Don’t go there. Cooler heads lead us to back around the ridge through tedious and trying terrain. The river and the boats were a welcome sight. Splashing through the rapids on the way to the Cascadilla take out point left those in the front of the boat chilly, but uncomplaining. We got off the river late, though still in daylight.
