A group of five started the ascent of SW Cannon from the Going to the Sun Road just past Avalanche Lake instead of the more common route from Logan Pass. After some considerable elevation gain (4000 feet), we concentrated on ascending the ridge to the summit (another 1000 feet) but found it to be Class 4 and 5 so different routes were explored. One group member (Paul) finally made it above the cliff bands and to the summit while the rest of the group decided to try a different route on another day. The lone group member summiting SW Cannon decided it would be easier to exit via Logan Pass. In retrospect - the climb from GTTS Road is probably not the easiest or recommended route to get to Logan Pass. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
