After checking the avalanche forecast and seeing that the danger was rated as Low for the day, seven GMS'ers and 2 guests set out on an adventure to Marion Lake. We started the trip at the Izaak Walton Inn with a temperature of 12 degrees. We snowshoed over the train bridge and up the Essex Creek Road about a mile to the trailhead. From there, it was a gradual ascent on trail to the lake. There was a few down trees from the recent wind storm, but nothing we couldn't get around. At the lake- it was chilly and breezy, so we pulled back into the trees where we were somewhat protected and had lunch and a break. It was smooth sailing on the mostly downhill back to the vehicles. The numbers for the day were about 7.5 miles, 2,250 feet of elevation gain, and it took the group right at 5 hours to complete.
