A group of five left Many Glacier and hiked up to the Ptarmigan Tunnel. After leaving the tunnel, we left the trail and ascended a goat trail to Red Gap Pass. The route saved several miles and considerable elevation gain up from Elizabeth Lake. There was no snow and nothing worse than Class 3. Had there been snow or ice, the goat trail would not be advised. After waiting a sow grizzly and a couple of cubs to leave the Pass, we ascended Seward where there the summit was quite blustery. We returned on the Elizabeth Lake trail back to the tunnel and back to Many Glacier. The trip was 19.4 miles and 6,000 feet plus of elevation change.
