Our group met near Black Bear Campground about 16 miles south east of Hamilton on the Skalkaho Road. The trailhead was 20 miles from the campground on a decent dirt road. It took over and hour and 15 minutes to get there. Climbers included Lou Herritt, Doug Thorsen, Anne Dellwo, Laurel Vielle, Gail and Dell Meuchel, and Lou Hatch. Lou H. did an excellent job as first time coordinator. We followed several Forest Service trail through open forest and small meadows. The western larch were in prime golden colors matching the aspens. The crux of the climb was a 900 foot "slog" from Kent Lake to the summit through a huge boulder field. Following my lead, we ventured a nearly straight course up. Upon obtaining the summit a much more friendly route was discovered as Lou H. had suggested. We were quite fatigued from the boulder dash but the trail out was shortened by our accomplishing the goal of climbing the high point in the Sapphire Range.
