Write Up:
With the Hidden Lake Overlook trail closed due to bears, Mount Reynolds, the original destination, was out of reach. With no parking available at Logan Pass in any case, Dennis Eaves and Michael Contrada, the co-coordinators, along with John Alke, Kim Davis, Pete Metzmaker, Eric Smart, and Jason Wilkes decided in the Lunch Creek parking area to climb Mount Siyeh and, if possible, Cracker Mountain. We headed out the Siyeh Pass trail and ascended the cliff band to the scree field below the summit ridge. Midway up the cliff band we faced a choice to traverse left or right but spotted a little cave ahead with a narrow hole at the top. We crawled through it during both the ascent and descent. On the ridge above the cliff band and scree, we braved 40+ mph winds as we made our way to the summit. We decided over a frigid lunch that Cracker was a peak too far in the high wind and returned the way we came. While the vistas were partially obscured by the smokey haze, the day was otherwise sunny and clear and the temperature, out of the wind, perfect for climbing. We met three other climbing parties along the way and numerous hikers on the Siyeh Bend trail. No critters were observed.
