Write Up:
GMS week started Monday with a wonderful group venturing up the Grinnell Glacier valley past Angels Wing to beautiful Morning Eagle Falls. The climbers included Greg Pagano, Rick Thomas, Anne Dellwo, Alda Sigvaldason, Dell and Gail Meuchel with guests John and Claire Reynolds. The approach to 9175 is over undulating tundra like hills until you reach the 2300-foot grind mostly up a dry water course. Early morning found our trek to be in a fog that concealed the peaks above. As we climbed the fog occasionally lifted teasing us with vailed summit glimpses. At about 8600-feet the water course became a nasty bowling alley with dangerous rock fall. One of our team became temporally pinned behind a large boulder. We rushed to his aide and found him to be rather shaken but no obvious injuries. At that point a group decision was made to safely leave the gully and head back down the mountain. We were concerned about possible internal injuries and one close call was one too many. We returned to the Many Glacier Lodge parking lot for beverages and chips.
