Write Up:
Coordinators Mike Contrada and Cindy Weaver had had these two peaks in our sites for a few years. Even once putting it on the list, but couldn’t make the climb due to bear activity. But, this day, even the weather cooperated. Starting out at the Ptarmigan Tunnel trailhead were: Rock Wanger, Ginia Hauf, Anne Dellwo, Jessica Longenecker, and Sam Kellog. We headed toward Henkle as our first summit following the route suggestion in Blake Passmores guide. With a bit of route finding and scrambling, we reached the summit. Taking a short break and summit photo we headed off the ridge in the opposite direction toward Crowfeet. The ‘fun’ break at the top took a bit of courage, but in small groups we tagged the actual summit. We ate lunch just down from the summit on a larger flat spot. A crow landed on the summit in a poetic pose and stayed long enough for his photo shoot. The men headed straight down from the summit in the scree. Ladies followed the guidebook suggestion of following the ridge over to the middle of Ptarmigan Lake before heading down. The guys definitely won the ‘race’ and were down well before the ladies. No matter when you got down, the cool waters of the lake were very refreshing. Trail miles back to the cars in the parking lot and tail gate party.
