6 GMS members and 2 guests left the Two Medicine trailhead at 7:19am and returned almost 12 hours later with 3 new summits! A great crew submitted Rockwell through fun, secure scrambling and returned to the trail by way of tremendously enjoyable scree runs. Once at Painted Teepee, all members of the group save Cole were turned around by wind on the exposed arete to the summit block. While waiting by the Southeast side of the summit block, Cole, Justin, and myself noticed a much better (and, crucially, protected from wind) 4th class face climb that seemed to offer passage to the summit. After a bit of discussion, we decided to test it out. Turns out this 40-foot class 4 section was clearly a better route than the arete when any wind is present! We summited successfully with the rest of the party watching from close below. We then took the scree run from the Painted Teepee-Chief Lodgepole saddle down to Cobalt Lake where we took an enjoyable break. A fast bust of trail mileage ended the day. Thanks all for a fun day out! Strava link
