Write Up:
After an evening at our family cabin at Maxville, we headed up the East Fork of Rock Creek. We ventured into the Pintler Wilderness at the Carpp Portal to access the trail to Cutaway Pass. The trail winds through a dense creek bottom until emerging onto a series of switch backs above the tree line. The views of Mt. Warren, East Goat and West Goat were spectacular. This trail gives climbers a taste of the beauty found in the Pintlers. Just before Cutaway Pass we took at short off trail detour to Marche Point at over 9800 feet. Great views of the East Fork Reservoir and Georgetown Lake was our reward. The group included Lou Hatch, Jim Semmelroth (a guest) , Gail and Dell Meuchel. Along the way Jim was participating in a hoary Marmot climate study. We didn't see any but it was their kind of place. A wonderful trip with good friends.
