Blustery June Father's Day, ten GMSer's met at Lubec Trailhead to climb Calf Robe. The trail crew had thankfully done some ditchwork, so mud bogging was kept at a minimum. There's about two miles of trail hiking (about 1.5 or so to Autumn Creek junction, then east a short ways to a meadow where we started our ascent.) We traversed the benches to the northeast, finding some Pasque flowers and other early wildflowers around the snow patches. Scrambling to the ridge became a windy endeavor, but four of the group continued to summit using ice axe and crampons; the others descended out of the wind and were able to see griz tracks in the mud on the trail, and then a bear by the tracks upon return. About a five hour leisurely group stroll in all. Alice Ford, Jer Lundgren, Dennis Bonawitz, Denise Davies, Joy Javorka, Sue Shannon, Jane Holland, Laurel Vielle, and guests Anders Lundgren and Teri Ness.
