Ten GMS members participated in a liesurely hike through the Blacktail Hills on Saturday, July 2nd. The group included six new GMS members for whom this was their first GMS event. We ascended the first steep hill in hopes of finding the bitterroot in bloom, but the cool sesson delayed the bloom and we were a couple of weeks early. The abundance of other flowers and the scenic views made up for the absence of bitterroot blossoms. Diane Lundgren was our "expert" for identifying the various flowers and her expertise was greatly appreciated by all. Mosquitos made thier annoying prscense felt in the wet areas, but once we reached the higher breezy ridges, they were much less an issue. The intended purpose of having a slow paced liesurely hike to enjoy Glaciers beauty was accomplished and enjoyed by everyone. It was a good preparation for more challenging GMS events in the future. Those who participated in this event were Tim Anderson, Daniel Fern, Mark and Annalisa Fields, James and Melissa Hulvat, Diane Lundgren, George and Connie Schuler and coordinator Darrel Coverdell Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
