Coordinators: Mike Contrada, Cindy Weaver Climbers: Sarah Scott, Greg Adams, Sue Shannon They say third time’s a charm. While this wasn’t exactly our third attempt at Rockwell . . . After two aborted attempts at Grizzly Mtn (1st for carcass at Cobalt and 2nd being blown off Two Medicine pass), we decided to turn in the other direction and summit Rockwell. Getting to Cobalt and up towards the pass always seems to go quickly and you are lured into thinking—‘we’re going to be done in no time’. Famous last words. While it didn’t take us unduly long, traveling through the scree shoots and route finding (thanks to everyone’s help) did take time. The summit was a welcome sight. It was even mostly calm and we enjoyed lunch and celebration at the top. The return trip, while ‘downhill the rest of the way’ always takes more time than expected with loose rocks and more route finding—did we come up this way?? Tailgate party in the parking lot rehashing the climb is always a reward. Sarah even braved the cold water and cooled off with a swim in Two Medicine Lake. Moose were the animal of the day with a big bull in the first swampy lake on the way up and maybe the same one in the beaver pond on the way out. 8 miles one way, 4,059 ft ascent Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album?
