My 1st GMS outing coordinating. Joe and Adam joined me on this adventure. 3 other GMS members had planned to join but hit a deer en route and were unable to make it. Cruised to Akokala lake and made decent time on the bushwack to the ridge. Mosquitos were thick and the slow movement on the bushwack made us feel like easy targets. 1st part of the ridge was easy cruising with minimal snow. Encountered a few spicy sections and the wet rock made for difficulty with sure footing. Encountered more snow but was able to cross it by kicking steps. .2 miles from the summit we reached a large rock block that was wet and both option left and right were covered with wet rock and snow. Without solid footing options and the risk of a slip leading to a fall down more snowy exposure we decided we would come back another day to reach the summit. Still a great day. A mix of weather (Sun, snow/sleet, rain). Thanks to Joe and Adam for joining! 18.98 miles and 6289 feet of vert. 13 hours and 34 minutes car to car.
