Absolutely wonderful day. David, Lori, and Brian joined me for a circumnavigation of the ridgeline above the Appistoki Basin. The rain that had given Glacier a nice soaking cleared out a couple of hours before we started, and the peaks at the head of Two Medicine largely protected us from low cloud cover, leaving us with a perfect weather day. Even the wind was relatively benign, as far as Two Med goes. We made quick work of the trail up to the cut-off before Scenic Point, and then proceeded to bag Medicine. From there we walked the very nice ridge up to Henry. Once at the blockage just before Henry's summit, David braved the airy arrete, while the others took the gully route, which was not super fun, but climbing up scree-filled gullies rarely is. After rendezvousing at Henry's summit, we continued along the spectacular ridge line to 8650, and then down to it's saddle with Appistoki. From there, Dave and Lori made the short trip to summit Appistoki. Brian, having previously summited Appistoki, and Mark, content to save it for another day, entertained a marmot at the saddle. We then picked our way down the stupendously gorgeous Appistoki Creek Basin. Amazing day, better hiking partners. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
