Write Up:
Excellent day to bag the highpoint of the Pintlers. A bit smoky, but it is late summer in Montana after all. Lots of trail mileage. We got an assist from a dude named Gus who had drawn a diagram on a log of how to navigate successfully through a boggy meadow. Breaking off-trail through open forest brought us up to a lovely meadow with a stream running through it and a nice stand of still green sub-alpine larch. We then made our way up to the beautifully stark Lost Lakes basin, and onward to the not too bad slog up to the summit of West Goat Peak. We bailed on East Goat as it was getting late in the day and we still had a long hike out. Great day, great group.
