Great day in the Swan, as always. Started on the Swan Divide Trail; riding a bike on this section would be a great alternative to walking a couple of miles at the start and finish. We then hooked up with the steep and huckleberry-laden Sunday Mountain Trail up to the crest of the Swan. We then walked up to the summit Sunday Mountain and then continued on the awesome ridge to Fisher Peak. Class II most of the way with a little bit of class III here and there. Access to the summit was up a scree chute, climber's right of the ridge. Great views of George Lake, Grizzly Basin, and into the Bob from Fisher's summit. We then retraced our path on the ridge a short ways and came off the ridge to walk through the Babcock/Grizzly Basin. Very cool area, lots of flowers, especially western pasqueflowers going to seed. We then met back up with the Sunday Mountain Trail to make the trip back to the cars and drinks just as some weather started to move in. The Swan may be my favorite range in Montana. Thanks to everyone who came and made it a great day, superb group. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
