Write Up:
A wonderful trip into the often-forgotten Anaconda- Pintler Wilderness. McLaughin Peak was the objective for seven GMS climbers. Laurel Vielle, Adam McClure, Matt Kerezis, Anne Dellow, and Mark Blevins joined Gail and Dell Meuchel on a journey up the Middle Fork of Rock Creek. The sun was breaking through the clouds as the group ventured on the trail to Johnson Lake. Evidence of he 2017 forest fire was evident, so too was the new growth from the recovery. The fire stopped only a few yards from the lake as the pines rose tall to frame the picturesque lake. Not far beyond the lake the scar of the fire returned on our trudge up Rainbow Pass. The pass topped out over 9000 feet as we followed the ridge up to the summit. As suggested by Anne, we chose a more “direct” route down, steep but effective. On our return to the trail head beverages were shared and Gail’s Cowboy Caviar was enjoyed by all.
