Write Up:
Rather than the somewhat more common approach of climbing Red Crow first, we cut over before Firebrand Pass and took an old trail down to Lena Lake. From there, we scrambled up to the saddle north of Red Crow and then took various goat trails across the long western slope of Bearhead to get to DeSanto Pass. We just went straight up from the Pass to the summit where we had lovely views all around.

For the way back, we basically retraced our steps. After Lena Lake and just before the old trail, we crossed a narrow stream just wider than a stride. The boulder on the opposite shore had become wet from everyone leaping onto it, so that the last person crossing slipped and began falling. Thankfully, another climber had anticipated this situation and was there at the shore with a steadying arm to prevent a fall. Someone yelled "Yea teamwork!" This is a nice part of GMS outings, when a group of near strangers unify and cooperate to ensure the success of all.

Trip was longer than expected at over 16 miles and 5,000+’ in 11.5 hours.
