Write Up:
We climb mountains, not so the world can see you, but so you can see the world. I saw this quote a few years ago. The Glacier Mountaineering Society, a diverse group of six members and one guest climbed to Mount Werner West peak, the highest of the four peaks on this mountain. The Sawtooth Range of the Rocky Front, filled with geological history written in rocks, has a lot to say of the past. This was an 8.3-mile day through the Black Leaf Canyon with 2959 feet of elevation gain. Mount Werner has two peaks, one to East which is the Bob Marshal Wilderness boundary which is 8090 feet and the West which is 8091 feet. We climb to the summit of the highest by one foot. We stopped for lunch at one of the peaks to the east and had lunch. Cloud started building with possible rain and lighting we decided to forgo the eastern peak. Being the first climb for season some of the group was having a little fatigue working their way in shape for the rest of the season. We had a great time and best of all the clouds opened and blue skies and sun on the way out.
