A beautiful day to explore a hidden gem. Lots of fresh huckleberries on the lower slopes. We did some completely unnecessary and thoroughly enjoyable scrambling on a few bands of cliffs in the basin on our way to the saddle between Red and Spot. Could have just walked around on the meadow, but we chose to play instead. Spent some time exploring the Lonely Lakes basin as well. Went swimming in the lower lake and then went to the upper lake, which was totally worthwhile. Had a lovely ridge walk over to Spot. There was substantially more water in the creek than a few weeks prior, so instead of descending via the creekbed we opted for the light bushwhack back to the trail. Starting at the entrance station made for a lovely loop. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
