A beautiful spring day greeted the GMS crew heading up to Baldy Mountain just north of Plains. The trail is quite forgiving winding it’s way for a little over two miles and 1500 feet to the summit. The climbers included Scott Freeman, Cecelia and Greg Notess, Deborah Raunig, Laurel Vielle and lee Thornton, Denise White, with Gail and Dell Meuchel. The views included the Cabinets, Missions, the Swan Range, the Bitterroots, and peaks in Glacier. Baldy has over 4,000 feet of prominence, one of the most prominent peaks in Montana. Several hikers dropped down to Baldy Lake surrounded on two sides by spectacular cliffs. Gail’s Cowboy Salsa was a hit at the tailgate.
