With both the Going to the Sun Road and Looking Glass pass closed, we had a long drive from the Flathead to get to Rising Sun for this nice warm-up climb for the season. After going up the Otokomi Lake trail for about 1.3 miles, we headed off trail towards a ridge of limestone that gets close to trail. Despite all the downfall elsewhere in Glacier, we had very little to climb over to get to the ridge. The rest of the way up was the usual route. On top, there is an obvious high point with a cairn, and yet multiple maps show the X for the summit further to the north. We all went over there. Despite the maps, we all agreed the high point is where the cairn is. We hit both and had beautiful views of the park and the prairie on the partly cloudy day. Descending the same way back to the cars (parked in the Rising Sun boat dock parking as the Rising Sun complex was not yet open), we were even greeted by a friendly fox. What great early season warm up with a fun group!

7.7 miles from the Rising Sun Trailhead, 3,681’ vertical gain, and just shy of 7 hours.
