With a bit of smoke in the area and no one else on the trail, our group of five headed in from Marias Pass on the Autumn Creek trail (west from the junction) for just over two miles and then headed north off trail to gain the long ridge up Little Dog. There was plenty of fun class 3 climbing for everyone up to the ridge top and the first summit of the day. The descent from Little Dog over to Summit Mountain always looks harder than it is, with plenty of smoky views. We had decent visibility despite the smoke. From Summit Mountain we came back to the low point for a scree descent that took us back to the east side of the Autumn Creek trail.

Just over 10 miles, 5,827’ elevation gain, and about 7.5 hours.
