With perfect weather and a strong group, this trip across Floral Park turned out successfully. Thanks to RMO's website, Jim Cossitt and Eve Dixon, great information was obtained ahead of time on conditions in this area from recent trips. The massive snowpack this year was a potential problem but it turned out to be a non-issue, as ice axes were left in the packs for the most part. Jodi Smith dropped off the seven-member GMS group (Larry Hiller, Stephen Smith, Joe Schletz, Matt Marcinek, Lisa Easton, Bill Haring, and Dan Fern) at Logan Pass at 8:30, and we returned to our cars at Lake McDonald at 7:30. A pleasant luncheon was held at Mary Baker Lake, and a gorgeous traverse of Sperry Glacier followed, terminating at Comeau Pass where we had the "summit" photo. While most of us were tired and treating blisters at the Sperry Chalet junction in the late afternoon, Lisa Easton still had energy to trail-run the 6.2 miles to the car! Thanks to Joe Schletz for volunteering as co-coordinator of this long trip. Have some photos from this event that you'd like to share in our photo album? Please forward them to Tim Anderson at twamontana@gmail.com. Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you. |
