The weather was nearly perfect as we met at Siyeh Bend prior to the climb. Of 8 climbers, only two had climbed Siyeh previously, and for everyone else it was their first 10k peak in Glacier. Everyone was there early, so we were on the trail at 8:15. We left the trail at the first pond and worked our way up the dry creek bed to the big thumb of debris at the base of Siyeh. After picking our way through the cliffs and crossing the scree below the large snow field, we reached the ridge and walked up to reach the summit right at the estimated time of 12:30. The wind was howling at the top (note the layers of clothing added at the top) which made it difficult to peer over the edge and down the north face. We had a nice (although wind driven) lunch at the summit, and although it was a close vote, we decided not to descend via the north face and returned via the same route we had ascended. After a quick descent, we arrived back at Siyeh Bend at 4:00pm. Other than the high winds at the summit, a near perfect day of climbing with a great group of GMSers! Summit Photo L to R: Kevin Mikelson, Annie Gustafson, Joe Schletz, Carly Putman, Pat Keane-Richmond, Alison McCarthy, Tim Horan and Jason Wilkes.
